On the occasion of the 53rd Biennale Art Exhibition, the exhibition “A Gift to Marco Polo: Contemporary Art from China” will take place at VIU from June 3 to July 2, 2009. The opening ceremony will take place at VIU on the Island of San Servolo on June 2 at 6.00 pm. Nine prominent Chinese contemporary artists - Zhang Xiaogang, Zhou Chunya, He Duoling, Wang Guangyi, Fang Lijun, Yue Minjun, Zhang Peili, Wu Shanzhuan and Ye Fang - participate in the exhibition. As a tribute to Marco Polo, the participating artists combine elements from the East and West in their interpretations of Italian art, European culture and western civilization. Their work reflects what makes modern and the modern Oriental. The exhibition is organized by Institutions of Chinart, the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai and Venice International University.
