Now, enter YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and social networking sites like Ning.com and behold -- an abundance of creativity. Voices that would otherwise go unheard find audiences. If someone likes an amateur video or a poem written on a blog -- it is passed on through e-mail and posted to new sites. (Or more technically: embedded onto new sites. You can copy a video from YouTube or other venues and just put it on your own Web page). Talent is experienced directly; an individual likes a singer, speaker, or writer OR doesn't, and acts accordingly. Yes, we all still view the world through our preconceptions and cultural conditioning but more gets through on the Internet. We have greater choices of what to watch and read and most importantly, we have more choices of where and how to participate. True, the Internet can become another "boob-tube," a place to devote too much passive time and distract us from the suffering and joys of "real" life, but it can also be an invitation to participate more fully in life.
