    Imagine Cup Student Competition 2009 - Explore Imagine Cup

    The World's Premier Student Technology Competition


    The Imagine Cup is one way Microsoft is encouraging young people to apply their imagination, their passion, and their creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference in the world. Now in its eighth year, the Imagine Cup has grown to be a truly global competition focused on finding solutions to global issues.  Below is a list of the 2009 and 2008 winners. For information on the winners of Imagine Cup 2003-2007, please see the links on the right side of this page.

    More than 300,000 students from over 142 countries entered the 2009 competition. The theme of 2010 Imagine Cup is "Imagine a world where technology helps solve the world's toughest problems."

    The Imagine Cup was founded in 2003. Worldwide Finals host countries have spanned the globe from Spain, to Brazil, to Japan, to India, to South Korea, to France and last year, in Egypt. The 2010 Worldwide Finals will take place in Poland.

    The "cup" itself, a trophy first awarded in 2003 when Software Design was the only category, has spent time with the Software Design champions in the United States (2003-2004), France (2004-2005), Russia (2005-2006), Italy (2006-2007), Thailand (2007-2008), Australia (2008-2009) and Romania (2009-2010).
